Exhibitions at Galleri Landborg

The Landborg gallery has presented summer exhibitions with well known Swedish glass artists, one artist each year since the opening of the gallery in the year 2004.
A short review is given of each exhibition and artist.

Exhibition "Sculptural Glass", Swedish and international, June 29 – August 5 (open Friday – Sunday, at 2 – 6 p.m.)
The exhibition contains artwork by the Swedish artists: Tommy Bremberg, Kjell Engman, Ulla Forsell, Hans Frode, Ulrika Hydman-Vallien, Berit Johansson, Gunilla Kihlgren, Mårten Medbo, Ann Nilsson, José Samson, Klas-Göran Tinbäck, Bertil Vallien, Ann Wolff och Edvin Öhrström.
and by the international artists: Elvira Bach (Germany), Luigi Benzoni (Italy), Pino Castagna (Italy), James Coignard (France), Ursula Huber (Italy), Riccardo Licata (Italy), Juan Ripolles (Spain), Irene Rezzonico (Germany), Borek Sipek (Czech Republic), Koen Vanmechelen (Belgium) och Silvio Vigliatura (Italy).
The picture to the left shows the scuplpture Crystal Souls by Koen Vanmechelen. The work is a "breed" between Italian and Irish glass, in that the head and body of the rooster are made at the Berengo Studios in Murano, and the wings are composed of crystal prisms made at the Waterford glass factory in Ireland.

Exhibition "Retrospect", with eight Swedish glass artists, July 7 – 30, 2011.
In the exhibition works are shown by the eight artists that have exhibited at Galleri Landborg during the period 2004 - 2010.
The artists and the year of their exhibition: Gunilla Kihlgren (2004) , Henrik Allert (2005), Mårten Medbo (2006), Berit Johansson (2007), Ulla Forsell (2008), Ann Wolf (2009), Erik Höglund (2010) och Hans Frode (2010).

Ölandskap (Öland landscapes), art in glass and neon by Hans Frode, July 25 – August 14 2010.
Hans Frode was born in 1951 in Västerås, Sweden, and studied at the Byam Shaw Art School in London. He has been working and living in New York since the 1980-ies and he has been active in developing the glass studio of Urban Glass in Brooklyn. In the US he acquired the skills to work in neon and to cast glass in pate de verre technique. He paints the images on plate glass, placed in antique wooden frames. He amplifies the motives with cast glass applications out from the surface and lit from behind with different color neon. He is also working sculpturally, for instance with fruits in glass on plates and glass violins in cases, also with neon illumination.
Hans Frode is represented at for example Steuben Glass in New York, Glass Museum in Ebeltoft, Småland´s Museum in Växjö, Malmö Art Museum, Museum des Art Decoratifs de Lausanne in Switzerland, VIDA museum on Öland. He has received commissions, for example at the Sport Arena in Västerås, Apoteksbolaget in Stockholm, the Concert Hall in Kalmar, the Zürich House in Stockholm.
Hans Frode has exhibited widely and regularly in Sweden, where he spends the summers in his house on Öland. Swedish exhibitions have been for example at the Global Art Glass 1999 – 2005 in Borgholm, the Hishult Art Gallery 2000 – 2006, VIDA museum 2009.

Exhibition of glass, sculpture and painting by Erik Höglund, July 1 – 20 2010.
Erik Höglund (1932 – 1998) was born in Karlskrona Sweden. He studied at the Stockholm Schools of art, craft and design 1948-53 and he studied graphics under Harald Sallberg 1951-52. He evolved into a Sculptor, Draughtsman and Graphic Artist with glass as his favorite medium. Between 1953 through 1973 he collaborated with Boda Glasswork where he revolutionized the art of glass in Sweden. During his 50 years as an active artist, from 1956 on - bronze sculpture for the Trelleborg grammar school - Erik Höglund has created up to 150 ornamental works in a variety of media - glass, bronze, wrought iron, brick, natural stone etc.
After a brief break from working with glass, he returned to the medium in the late 70's. A collaboration with Pukeberg Glasswork was initiated in 1979 followed by, Pilchuck Glass School (USA), Transjöhyttan Glasswork, Åhus and Vrigstad Glasswork. In the late '80s Eric began a very fruitful relationship with Studioglas Strombergshyttan which lasted until his death in 1998. During this period he renewed himself and Swedish glass once again and now with a zest of color never seen before.
Erik Höglund has a permanent exhibition at Blekinge Länsmuseum, Karlskrona. He is also represented at?for example Nationalmuseum, Stockholm; Röhsska Konstslöjdsmuseet, Göteborg; Konstmuseet Arkiv för dekorativ konst, Lund; Smålands Museum, Växjö; Kalmar Konstmuseum; Darmstadt Landschaftsmuseum Darmstadt; Bellerive Kunstgewerbemuseum, Zürich; Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, New York; Corning Glass Museum, New York State.

Exhibition of art in glass and on paper by Ann Wolff, June 28 - August 2, 2009.
Ann Wolff is one of our very best known artists working in glass. She was born in 1937, lives and works on Gotland Kyllai Sweden and she has also a studio in Berlin. After studies at Hochschule für Gestaltung i Ulm, Tyskland, she came to Sweden in 1960 as a designer, first at Pukebergs glasbruk and later at Kosta Boda. Since 1978 Ann Wolff has worked in studioglass, first at Transjö, Småland, och later on Gotland. She was professor in design at Hochschule für bildende Kunst, Hamburg, Tyskland, 1993 – 98. She is Guest teacher at the Glass school in Pilchuck, USA, since 1977.
Ann Wolff has received many awards, for example the Lunningprice 1968, Coburger Glasspreis 1977, Rakow Comission at Corning Museum of Glass 1997, Jurors Award at Corning Museum of Glass 2007.
Ann Wolff is represented at museums and collections all over the world, for example at Corning Museum of Glass, Konstindustrimuseet in Köpenhamn, Ebeltoft glasmuseum, Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Kunstmuseum der Stadt Düsseldorf, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, Museum of Art and Design in New York, National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Röhsska Konstslöjdmuseet in Göteborg, Stadelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Ann Wolff has received comissions, for example at the University of Umeå, Volvo Co in Göteborg, the Concert Hall in Växjö, the Academic Hospital in Uppsala, chapel LDC (Landelijk Dienstencentrum) SOW (Samen op Weg), Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Ann Wolff has exhibited widely, for in stance at Ebeltoft museum, Glassmuseum Riihimäki Finland, Leo Kaplan Gallery and Habatat Galleries in USA, Global Art Glass in Borgholm, Aperto Vetro in Venedig,m SOFA Art Fair in USA, at Småland´s museum in Växjö, Liljevalchs in Stockholm.

Exhibition of art glass by Ulla Forsell, June 29 - July 27, 2008.
Ulla Forsell was born 1944. She lives and works in Stockholm. She studied at the University College of Art and Design (Konstfackskolan) in Stockholm and at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam.
Ulla Forsell was one of the very first artists in Sweden starting her own glass studio in 1974, and she makes all her art glass there.
Ulla Forsell is represented at the National Art Museum in Stockholm; Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, Corning Museum of Glass, USA; Victoria and Albert Museum in London; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg.

Exhibition of art glass by Berit Johansson, June 30 - July 28, 2007.
Berit Johansson was born in Vadstena, where she also resides. She studied at University College of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm, and in England, Italy and the US.
Most of her art glass is made at Sjöhyttan glass studio, Älghult, Småland. Berit Johansson was working at Salviati Glass factory in Venice from 1990 to 1998, and at Pauly C.M.V. , Venice, from 1998. She is represented at the Corning Museum of Glass, US; Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg; Glass Museum of Växjö, etc.

Exhibition of art glass by Mårten Medbo, July 1 - 29, 2006.
The art glass exhibited was produced in Ajeto, the Czech Republic.
Mårten Medbo was born 1964. He is residing in Kräklingbo, Gotland. He studied at the University College of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm.
He is represented at the National Museum, Stockholm; Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg etc.

Exhibition of art glass, ceramic sculpture and textile by Henrik and Gerd Allert, July 8 – August 6, 2005.
The glass sculptures by Henrik Allert were produced at Berengo Fine Arts in Murano, Italy.
Gerd Allert, born 1940, is working in textile and Henrik Allert, born 1937, is working in ceramics and glass. They reside and work in Skövde.
Gerd Allert studied at Konstindustriskolan, Gothenburg. She is represented at the Skövde Museum; Racksta Museum, Arvika, etc, and she has done textile work for the Katarina Church in Stockholm etc.
Henrik Allert studied at Konstindustriskolan, Gothenburg. He has exhibited among other places at Pince Eugen´s Waldemarsudde, Stockholm, in 1991 and 2002, and he is represented at the National Museum, Stockholm; Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg; Museum of Art and Design, Oslo; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, etc.

Exhibition of art glass by Gunilla Kihlgren, July 9 – August 5, 2004.
The glass was produced at her own glass studio and at work shops in Murano, Italy.
Gunilla Kihlgren was born 1960, and she resides and works in Stockholm. She studied at the University College of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm; at Pilchuck, USA, and at the glass school of Orrefors. Gunilla Kihlgren has been teaching at the University College in Stockholm and at the University of Helsinki.
She is represented at the National Museum, Stockholm; Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg; Rihimäki Glass Museum, Finland; Glass Museum of Växjö; Ebeltoft Glass Museum, Denmark, etc.
